HEIC to JPG

iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but HEIC won't open on a lot of PCs, websites and older apps. Convert it to universally-supported JPG here in a couple of seconds.

What we checked

Reviewed September 3, 2026

We reviewed the HEIF WebAssembly decoder, first-image selection, RGBA display path, JPEG encoder, quality control, and local-only data flow.

Decoder
WebAssembly

HEIC bytes are decoded inside the tab with libheif rather than sent to a conversion service.

Output
JPEG

Decoded pixels are placed on Canvas and saved as image/jpeg.

Multi-image files
First image

The current converter exports the first decoded image from a HEIC container.

Limits to know before a large batch

  • Depth maps, Live Photo video, burst frames, and auxiliary images are not exported.
  • Color appearance can differ when a source relies on profiles the browser decoder does not reproduce identically.

HEIC to JPG details

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format Apple devices use by default — it packs great quality into a small file. The catch is compatibility: upload a HEIC to many websites, email it to a Windows user, or open it in older software and it simply won't display. Converting to JPG fixes that instantly, giving you a file that opens on literally any device or platform.

The conversion happens in your browser — the HEIC is decoded with a WebAssembly build of libheif and re-saved as a high-quality JPG, with no server involved. That means your photos stay private and you can convert as many as you like for free, with no watermark and no sign-up. Drag your HEIC straight from the Photos export or your downloads folder.

Frequently asked

Why won't my HEIC photos open on Windows or the web?

HEIC is an Apple-first format and many platforms don't bundle a decoder for it. JPG is supported everywhere, so converting is the simplest way to make iPhone photos universally viewable.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

There's a negligible re-encode step, but at our high quality setting the JPG is visually identical to the original. You gain compatibility and only trade a small amount of file efficiency.

Can I convert several HEIC photos at once?

Yes — drop multiple files and each is converted to its own JPG. Everything runs locally in your browser, so a big batch never uploads anywhere.
